Yesterday’s decision by The Rowe Companies, and its manufacturing subsidiary Rowe Furniture, to voluntarily file for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code on September 18, 2006 will allow Rowe Furniture to focus on manufacturing, as its sister subsidiary Storehouse will be sold. Sixty years of manufacturing experience in producing stylish and quality upholstered furniture positions Rowe solidly to return to profitability. The primary manufacturing facilities in Virginia opened for business this morning and began a full day of processing incoming orders and completing production on existing orders. In addition, the technologically-advanced factory in Elliston, Virginia and the framing plant in Salem, Virginia anticipate hiring additional people to meet the production demand and supplement the need created by the closing of the secondary upholstery and framing facilities in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Rowe Furniture’s products will continue to be showcased at over 1,200 retailers across the United States and Canada. On October 16, 2006 Rowe will open its showroom doors at the High Point Market for the twice-annual international furniture market, and welcome existing and prospective retailers to view the new offerings for Spring 2007. Delivery of Rowe’s sofas, sectionals, chairs and ottomans will proceed with no anticipated interruption as the company’s wholly-owned and managed fleet of delivery trucks maintains regularly scheduled deliveries to retailers across the country and Canada. The leadership of Rowe continues solidly as Gerald M. Birnbach oversees the company’s strategy to regain profitability. “Rowe Furniture has been one of the country’s leading manufacturers of upholstered furniture for decades,” said Birnbach, President of Rowe Furniture. “We have employed the finest and most valuable group of associates who have maintained this tradition with utter dedication. We expect that the restructuring steps we are taking, while difficult, will ensure the future of our enterprise and our people.” Rowe Furniture, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of custom upholstered furniture in the United States.
