During the week of March 13-17, the city of Bento Goncalves in southern Brazil will host MOVELSUL BRASIL 2006, one of the most comprehensive international furniture trade fairs in Latin America, displaying the quality of Brazilian furniture as it brings together more than 400 exhibitors. Held every two years, this 15th furniture fair is a professional event exclusively for manufacturers and buyers that serves as a stage for the launch of new products. The fair draws a largely professional audience made up of retailers, interior designers and furniture importers. One of MOVELSUL BRASIL's distinguishing features is the dazzling 52,000 square meters it occupies in the city's Exhibition Center, displaying the quality and creativity of Brazilian furniture. Brazil has 16,000 furniture factories, and the sector employs 195,000 people. In Bento Goncalves alone, there are 370 firms and one of the largest furniture export complexes in the country. MOVELSUL BRASIL also offers the "Buyers Project," which is supported by the federal government, giving importers the opportunity to meet Brazilian manufacturers and initiate partnerships. Another popular event at MOVELSUL BRASIL is "Design Salon," an international prize for furniture design where visitors and leaders in the furniture business from abroad can network with their counterparts from all over Latin America and the Caribbean. Brazilian furniture exports generated US$ 1 billion in revenues in 2004, with principal buyers the United States, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Mexico, Spain, Argentina, Canada, and Uruguay. The Brazilian furniture industry, through incentives and specific programs, has made a superlative showing in the international market. Its manufacturing base is at the same level as that of the traditional furniture manufacturing countries, and it has been investing in technically upgrading its personnel for some time. Furthermore, professional meetings and participation in international trade fairs have helped foster outstanding standards of quality in Brazilian furniture.
