According to the NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI DAILY JOURNAL, "TFM participants have complained publicly for several years that motel owners jack up prices when it's their turn to come to town, twice yearly for the markets. After the meteoric summer debut of the Las Vegas' $1 billion World Market Center, attendance at the August Tupelo market was down an estimated 20 percent." The newspaper reported that Ed Neeley, the Mayor of Tupelo held a meeting with city leaders to address this problem. Competition from the new Las Vegas show has brought this issue to the forefront in Tupelo.
