The INTERNATIONAL FURNITURE FAIR 1999 in Cologne from 18th to 24th January will also present domestic lighting for the first time. Approx. 230 suppliers from Germany and abroad will make the "Lighting Centre" one of the largest and most important lighting fairs in Europe right from its debut event. At the same time the supporting programme at the INTERNATIONAL FURNITURE FAIR will also be offering a further "highlight" - quite literally: presented here will be the winning designs from the Nachlux - Young Talent Contest for Innovative Lighting Design. This contest, being held for the third time, will focus in 1999 on children's living space. Participation in the contest is open to students of design, architecture or interior design and graduates of these fields writing their final dissertations no longer than three years previously. Participants are asked to "reflect" upon the theme of light, thereby contributing to improving design quality in lighting design. The children's room - and other rooms used by children - were selected as a highlight as this area has been given relatively little "focus" until now, thereby offering young designers particularly interesting opportunities for light and lighting concepts. The patron of the contest is the Lord Mayor of the City of Cologne. The closing date for entries is 1st December 1998; prizes for the winning designs will be awarded on 18th January 1999, the first day if the INTERNATIONAL FURNITURE FAIR. Prizes worth a total of DM 10,000 will be awarded. The presentation of the best entries is to be extended in collaboration with Nachlux from 20th to 22nd August 1999 at Kind + Jugend - International Children and Teenagers Fair Cologne. Also on display here will be award-winning children's lights now already in production. Further information and registration documents are available from the City of Cologne - Office for Urban Development Planning on Tel. No.: (0)221/221-4148, Fax: (0)221/221-8493.
