The Hardwood Manufacturers Association (HMA), a Pittsburgh-based trade group, has published a Guide to American Hardwood Species. The booklet profiles the 21 major commercial U.S. hardwood species, and includes general descriptions, working properties, physical properties and typical uses for each. Full-color photos depict each species' color and grain pattern. The Species Guide also shows applications of each wood in various residential and commercial settings, and contains a glossary of lumber-related terms. The 28-page brochure, which is available free-of-charge, is particularly useful for architects, interior designers, professional remodelers, woodworkers, carpenters and other building professionals who specify hardwoods. Homeowners in the midst of building or remodeling projects also will find it a valuable educational resource. To order a free copy of Guide to American Hardwood Species, contact the Hardwood Manufacturers Association at 400 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 530, Pittsburgh, PA 15235. Phone (800) 373-WOOD. Or visit HMA's Hardwood Information Web site at www.hardwood.org. The Hardwood Manufacturers Association is the largest national trade association devoted exclusively to advancing the interests of U.S. hardwood lumber producers and processors. The organization has 159 members in 34 U.S. states.
