W.S. Badcock Corporation, one of the largest home furniture retailers in the country, was recently named one of Polk County's Best Places to Work by Polk Works WorkForce 2020. This award honors the most innovative workplace practices. Badcock also won the Spirit of the Family Award, given by Success by 6 (an initiative of the United Way of Central Florida), in recognition of companies that have the most family-friendly policies. The Best Places to Work awards recognize the companies in Polk County that are taking the lead in developing quality workplaces to ensure their competitiveness for a skilled workforce. The Spirit of the Family awards were developed in 2001 to honor businesses that provide family friendly policies and family oriented workplaces. Badcock, which celebrates their 100th anniversary in January, has a long commitment to its employees and to local communities. Among other benefits, the company provides educational opportunities by offering tuition reimbursement programs for Badcock employees and the sponsorship of 14 different college scholarships for their children. Badcock also provides training and development programs for employees, a complete on-site fitness center, a registered, on-site occupational nurse, monthly childcare vouchers and an on-site lactation room for new mothers. Employees are encouraged to volunteer in the community and the company allows for flexible work schedules to accommodate participation. In addition, Badcock is quickly reaching their goal to help supply home furnishings for 100 Habitat homes during 2004 in celebration of its Centennial anniversary. "We are extremely proud of these awards," said Don Marks, Badcock President and CEO. "Family is a word that Badcock uses to encompass each and every one of our employees, dealers, customers, and community members. Our top priority is to ensure that this family and the generations to come have a quality workplace to call home every day."
