The Suppliers Division of the American Furniture Manufacturers Association has awarded its 2002 Distinguished Service Award to John Bergandine of adhesives manufacturer Franklin International in Columbus, Ohio. The award is given annually to a person who has proven to be a valuable asset to the Suppliers Division in its efforts to enhance its relationship with the furniture industry. This person not only makes an impact in AFMA affairs but also is a respected and influential member of his or her community. In presenting the award to Bergandine, J.R. Gfesser of Trendler Inc. in Chicago and president of the Suppliers Division, said, “John has been very methodical in his approach to issues and challenges while keeping us focused and centered, and he has always brought us back to the values of AFMA membership.” Gfesser noted Bergandine’s work in AFMA recruiting, fund-raising and mentoring, as well as his community service in leading introspective ecumenical retreats around the country. His hobbies include making furniture by hand using simple hand tools. He is currently building a violin. The American Furniture Manufacturers Association is headquartered in High Point, N.C. – the furniture capital of the world – and represents more than 200 leading U.S. furniture manufacturers and an additional 250 suppliers to the industry.
