Brownstone Introduces Dining, Cocktail, Occasional Tables And Case Goods At October High Point

San Francisco-based Brownstone, manufacturers of gracefully designed furniture that brings tradition forward, will debut twelve new pieces in its “Bancroft” line at the upcoming High Point market. The collection -- including dining, cocktail, and occasional tables, console, sideboard, bar, hutch and mirror -- was designed by Ted Boerner, best known for his custom, classic modern furniture sold to the trade. “Bancroft” promises to bring his elegant-yet-understated design approach to Brownstone’s nationwide retail audience. The dining/living suite, cherry and white oak veneer, will be on view in booth H 121 in Inner Hall, at the International Home Furnishings Center, October 17 to 24. The new series is a sequel to the eight-piece “Bancroft” bedroom collection, also designed by Boerner, introduced last April at the market. Comprised of a bed, dressers, night table, bench, armoire, and mirrors, it was rooted in a Mission style, accented with the leit motif of a beveled frame that surrounded the drawer faces, headboard, case pieces and mirrors. Ted considered it a “picture frame,” and continued the device in the dining/living collection, this time in a broader gesture. Here the frame simultaneously defines the overall forms of the pieces and serves as a decorative element, playing light against dark, and smooth against texture. DINING CHAIRS, arm and side. Contoured rectangular back; squared seat; upholstered cushions framed in cherry. Tapered legs; arms defined by spare, faceted planes. DINING TABLES, rectangular (extension) and round. Visually striking, these basic geometric forms get their kick from the graphic drama of alternating grain patterns in the oak veneer table top, stained an espresso brown. Oak veneer has cherry “frame.” Frame motif is echoed in base, where square beams create a criss-crossing “frame” in three dimensions. Extension table expands from 76 to 100 inches. COCKTAIL and END TABLES, rectangular, round and square. Variations on dining tables. Leather or (espresso-stained) white oak veneer table tops. Veneer has alternating grain pattern; leather is chocolate brown. CONSOLE. Variation on rectangular cocktail table, with two suspended glass shelves. SIDEBOARD. Two doors, three drawers, in a modern, asymmetrical arrangement. Flaired legs. Beveled cherry frames front and top. Door and drawer faces are (espresso-stained) white oak veneer; counter top offered in glass or veneer. Recessed brushed brass pulls. HUTCH. Glass display area (case and shelves) enclosed in beveled cherry frame, illuminated interior, three drawers faced in (espresso stained) white oak veneer. Flaired legs. Cherry frame top. Recessed brushed brass pulls. BAR. Variation on sideboard. Two doors faced in (espresso stained) white oak veneer. Flaired legs. Beveled cherry frames front. Painted glass tray top. Recessed brushed brass pulls. MIRROR. “Almost-square” mirror mounted on (espresso-stained) white oak veneer with alternating grain pattern; veneer in turn is framed in beveled cherry. Suggested retail prices will range from $299 for an occasional table to $2,199 for a dining table. Brownstone’s “Bancroft” collection is sold in fine retail stores throughout the United States. The dining collection will be available in January.
