American Society of Furniture Designers Launches Scholarship/Design Competition

The American Society of Furniture Designers (ASFD) is announced the launch of its 2010/11 Academic Scholarship/Design Competition for design students with an interest in furniture design.

The contest is open to junior and senior level college students enrolled in an accredited design program.  Students are challenged to design a production-friendly cocktail table to be judged by professional furniture designers.  Entries will be judged on presentation, creativity, use of materials, aesthetics and feasibility of manufacturing.  The winning entry will be prototyped by the Phillips Collection (http://www.phillipscollection.com), a leading manufacturer of high-end contemporary furnishings, and prominently displayed in their showroom during the Spring High Point Market in April 2011.   The contest winners will be invited to attend the ASFD Spring Market dinner where they will be presented and awarded cash prizes from ASFD.

This competition is a career-building opportunity for students across the country.  ASFD is dedicated to helping students bring the best designs forward.  We are proud to announce that there is great enthusiasm at some of the top design institutions, including SCAD (Savannah College of Art & Design), Kendall College, RISD (Rhode Island School of Design), High Point University, and Art Center College of Design.  Their students are aware of the competition and have started developing their best works.

The deadline for entries is January 5, 2011.  This design competition offers First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention placements and the winning students will be announced In February 2011 through various digital and print media.
