Plato S. Wilson School of Commerce Dedicated at HPU

High Point University announced that the new Plato S. Wilson School of Commerce was dedicated on April 29 in front of an audience of 200 High Point University faculty, staff, students, city leaders, invited guests and media. HPU President Dr. Nido Qubein presided at the dedication ceremony, which honored Plato S. Wilson and his ongoing support of the university. Dr. Dennis Carroll, vice president and dean for academic affairs, gave a building overview and invocation, and Marsha B. Slane, chair of the HPU Board of Trustees, shared remarks. Tom Dayvault, president and CEO of the High Point Chamber of Commerce, spoke about the benefits the School of Commerce will bring to students and to the city as a whole. Following the ceremony, guests had the opportunity to tour the 60,000-square-foot, $16 million building. Beginning in August, students preparing for careers in marketing, sales, entrepreneurship, operations management, supply chain management, human resource management and more will get to use the new facility, which houses several spaces dedicated to business endeavors. Its trading room supports teaching and research with state-of-the-art technology, including financial databases, investment software, professional accounting programs, a stock ticker, dual monitors, smart boards, multiple screens and world clocks. Also housed in the new building, the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is designed to advance the entrepreneurship major to the next level of excellence by providing new emphases on entrepreneurship, sales, management and marketing. Students will learn new venture concepts using real-world scenarios based on the Center's interactions with the local business community and its noted professionals.
