La-Z-Boy – a leading provider of comfort for the past 80 years says that it is answering the call for furniture designed to fit shifting lifestyle trends with new product introductions at the 2009 High Point Furniture Market. Small Spaces, Big Comfort Proving that large comfort can indeed come in small packages, several new recliners, sofas and sectionals will appeal to those who still want big comfort in a smaller living area. These new styles, which include “Carlin,” “Sydney” and “Madeline,” complement the smaller-scale look that has been very popular for La-Z-Boy. “According to the American Institute of Architects, the weakening housing market and rising cost of living has resulted in a decrease in the size of the typical U.S. home,” said Paula Hoyas, vice president of merchandising for La-Z-Boy. “This trend has inspired us to create smaller-scale furniture that is functional, attractive and, of course, comfortable, for all of our consumers to enjoy, no matter the size of their home.” With its clean lines and decorative wood arm detail, “Carlin” is versatile and offers an updated design. The collection includes a recliner and matching motion sofa for a perfectly coordinated living space. On the stationary front, “Sydney” offers a clean and simple look in a “condo/metro-friendly” scale. Its delicately shaped arms, tight back and simple tapered wood legs lend it a versatile look that allows for customization with its transitional styling. “Sydney” is part of the La-Z-Boy Premier Collection, a recently introduced line of high-end but affordable stationary furniture featuring new ComfortCore™ cushion technology. The new “Madeline” collection appeals to those who desire a comfortable, familiar look in their homes. Seven different collection pieces and many fabric options allow for customization, and a basic, traditional skirted frame and rolled arm on a petite scale is ideal for small spaces. Bring the Party Home The economy also has spurred many consumers to spend more time at home with friends and family to cut entertainment costs. “Comfortable furniture can make all the difference for a fun night at home,” said Hoyas. “A cozy recliner, comfy loveseat or spacious home theater configuration can turn any home into the place to be!” For those who like to play host to large groups, a new console unit provides a practical way to offer more space for guests and delivers functional and stylish options for reclining furniture. Perfect for turning furniture configurations into home theater-like seating spaces, it features a wooden table surface, cup holders and storage drawers with silver metal pulls that coordinate nicely with the company’s “Arc” brushed metal handle. Other stylish introductions that can turn any home into a comfortable destination include “Crandell,” a motion sofa that boasts standard extension legrests, extended handles and seat cushions/padding that provide extra support; “Ashton,” a recliner featuring an updated design and padded arms that is sized perfectly for those with more height; and “Hypnotic,” a larger-scale recliner with a channeled back and gently curved arm posts to offer plushness and coziness.
