The American Society of Furniture Designers announced that it  is now Tweeting as A_S_F_D. Furniture designer Katie Hatch, ASFD vice president and chair of the 2009 Pinnacle Awards said “Twitter allows our organization to update and stay up to date with our members as well as clients, retailers and consumers.”  Katie adds, “Twitter allows ASFD members to be instantly and succinctly updated to the latest news, events and trends.   It helps to bring traffic to our member Web sites which showcase their products and services, increases brand recognition, and enables rapid feedback from a wide range of consumers as well as retailers.  The possibilities are endless for those who are interested to get a peak into the world of home furnishings design. It is also a wonderful portal for job referrals, sourcing suggestions, and merchandising questions.”

About Twitter
While most of us still don’t know what a ‘blog’ really is let alone a “micro-blog”, Socialtimes.com reports that according to the most recent statistics from Compete.com “Twitter has surpassed 14 million users, up over 76.8 percent since last month when we wrote that they had surpassed 8 million users.”  According to lostartofblogging.com “Twitter is basically a service that allows you to update your status with short messages, of up to 140 characters, just like a SMS text message. What makes it so special is that it also has social elements, allowing users to befriend each other; in Twitter this is called ‘following.’ Whenever you’re following somebody on Twitter you’ll be able to instantly receive their updates and keep up to date with someone’s status. Furthermore because mobility and fastness are of the utmost importance in micro blogging, Twitter allows you to update your status via the web page, IM, mobile phone, blackberry or various other third party applications.

As such the awards are intended to celebrate designs that are produced in large numbers for sale to customers through retail stores.
