Turning House Millworks announced that Amy Miller, deconstructionist and wood expert for Turning House Millworks, has been certified as a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional (LEED AP). To receive the certification, building industry professionals must pass an extensive exam administered by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), demonstrating a thorough understanding of green building and the LEED® Green Building Rating System™. Candidates are also required to have experience working in multiple building disciplines. “Amy’s certification will enable Turning House Millworks to guide architects, construction managers, engineers and interior designers through the process of LEED mandates for the various categories and levels of green building certifications,” says Spencer Morten III, CEO and chairman of Turning House Millworks and sister company, Turning House Furniture. “With a LEED AP on staff, we are able to guarantee the chain of custody required to prove that our reclaimed wood carries official documentation and authentication.” Launched in 2001 by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the designation identifies those with an understanding of green building practices and principles, and familiarity with LEED requirements, resources and processes. Miller will now be able to provide an independent, third-party verification that Turning House Millworks wood products meet the highest green building and performance measures. She also will be able to assist customers with the LEED certification process for gaining credits and tax incentives on the local, state and federal levels. “This completes the authentication process and demonstrates that our company is doing all that it can to make it easier for our customers to become good stewards of the earth,” Morten says. “We are very proud of Amy and her leadership in the LEED system as an accredited professional. Not many reclaimed wood supply companies can offer this service.” Turning House is a vertically integrated organization. Sister company, Turning House Millworks provides the wood for Turning House Furniture by tediously deconstructing old, abandoned buildings destined for landfills. Beautiful old growth hardwoods harvested from old factories, mills and tobacco warehouses are given new life as furniture, flooring, cabinets and other building products. Turning House Millworks is located in Landis, N.C. As a member of the U.S. Green Buildings Council (USGBC), the custom order millworks offers full documentation for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) credits on all reclaimed lumber products. Turning House Furniture, a member of the Sustainability Furnishings Council, is based in Bassett, Va. and targets upscale retailers and interior designers.
