AHFA Solution Partners Division Slates Education Golf Tournament

Furniture World News Desk on 8/8/2018

The Solution Partners division of the American Home Furnishings Alliance (AHFA) recently announced that it will hold its 28th Annual Education Golf Tournament Wednesday, September 12, at Lake Hickory Country Club in Hickory, N.C.

Registration is $500 for a foursome or $150 per player. Players do not have to be AHFA members to participate. Online registration is at www.ahfa.us.

The tournament begins with a noon shotgun start, and registration includes a box lunch. New to the 2018 tournament is the opportunity (for a donation) to have professional golfer and long drive competitor Jacob Golliday hit a player’s drive 400-plus yards, giving that player the chance to eagle a par 5 hole.

All proceeds from the September tournament are dedicated to the Solution Partners Education Fund, which supports a variety of initiatives, including the Solution Partners Scholarship Program. More than 100 scholarships have been awarded since the program began in 1990.

“The Solution Partners Scholarship Program is the only education initiative in the industry dedicated to supporting higher education for the children of industry workers,” notes Solution Partners Executive Director Mary O’Keeffe.

Last year the scholarships, which are presented based on academic merit of the student and financial need, were increased from $2,000 each to $2,500 each. In addition, the number of awards was increased from six to eight. Students may reapply for the one-year scholarships each year they are in school, provided the parent remains employed full time at a home furnishings industry company.

AHFA’s Solution Partners division is made up of more than 150 companies that supply products and services to the residential furniture industry worldwide. In addition to funding the scholarship program, the division’s Education Golf Tournament helps underwrite a jobs website that educates prospective industry workers about available job opportunities in the industry (www.MyFurnitureCareer.com).

Proceeds also have been used to support the Furniture Academy at Catawba Valley Community College, which offers training for upholstery workers.
