Theodore Alexander Raises $75,000 for Nonprofit Whole Child International

Furniture World News Desk on 11/21/2018

Theodore Alexander  recently announced that on October 12, 2018 during High Point Furniture Market, they hosted a dinner and silent auction that raised a record $75,685 to benefit Whole Child International, a nonprofit dedicated to elevating the quality of care for children worldwide. Held in the Theodore Alexander dining room, the event featured special guests Charles, 9th Earl Spencer, a Theodore Alexander design partner, and his wife Karen, Countess Spencer, the Founder and CEO of Whole Child International.

“For Theodore Alexander, High Point Furniture Market offers more than a season to celebrate new designs and collections,” said Neill Robinson, president, Theodore Alexander. “It’s also an opportunity to create lasting change in our society, and we’re honored to support Whole Child International and Lady Spencer’s work that makes such an impact across the globe.”

Theodore Alexander’s benefit dinner raised cornerstone funds that will be used to provide training and mentoring in relationship-based childcare for caregivers of El Salvador's most vulnerable children, along with research and systemwide reforms to make sure the changes last. Lady Spencer founded Whole Child International in 2004 with the aim of giving every child the opportunity to be properly cared for and loved. Research has proven that in as little as two years, children receiving the benefits provided by Whole Child International have experienced significant health improvements, as well as overall improvement in cognitive, linguistic, motor and social-emotional development.

“We were humbled by the generosity of both Theodore Alexander and the guests of High Point Furniture Market,” said Lady Spencer.  “This support enables us to continue to expand as we help provide orphaned and other vulnerable children with the basic human right of becoming productive members of society – with benefits that reach across El Salvador and beyond.”

“Theodore Alexander has already been such a generous partner to our family and to our ancestral home, Althorp, “said Lord Spencer. “This additional show of benevolence in supporting Whole Child International only confirms that the care and love they put into their furniture design are indeed mirrored by their commitment to the greater community.”

After dining with Lord and Lady Spencer, guests were invited to bid on hallmark pieces from the Althorp Living History Collection. Designed in partnership with Theodore Alexander, this collection encapsulates reproductions from the Althorp Estate, the Spencer family’s ancestral home of 19 generations. All donations and proceeds from the dinner and silent auction supported Whole Child International.

More about Althorp Living History Collection: For five centuries, Althorp - a sprawling English estate in bucolic Northamptonshire - has served as the primary residence of the Spencers, one of the most distinguished, aristocratic families in England with ties to Winston Spencer Churchill and the ancestors of George Washington.

It was this combination of rich legacy and the home’s warm, beautiful interiors that drew fine furniture maker Theodore Alexander to Althorp. The resulting collection of furniture and upholstery pieces in Althorp Living History draws inspiration from treasures gathered during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries by Althorp’s famous inhabitants.
