Luxury home furnishings retailer That’s Living recently announced the opening of its first store in The Russian Federation in Sochi and the opening of its flagship store in Moscow in early October.  These stores are a part of an international network that was launched in 2008 in Doha, Qatar.  By 2020 the retailer plans to open salons in St. Petersburg, Moscow, and Kazan.

The furniture collection of the retailer’s stores in Russia will be presented by the American brand Caracole under exclusive rights. It will be combined with rugs, lighting, accessories, textiles, ceramics and art by European brands and international producers under That’s Living brand. The retailer simultaneously launched a companion e-commerce website with an expanded collection of items.

The Sochi store is located at the Mandarin Mall in Adler, an upscale micro district with a grand party attended by designers, architects and glitterati.  The store spans two floors and approximately 700 square meters.  On October 4, 2018, the flagship salon will open in the heart of Moscow, close to the Red Square.  That’s Living has become the major tenant on Tverskaya Street (the 5th Avenue of Moscow) in an urban 1.750 square meter four-story space.

The innovative That’s Living retail concept was created by internationally renowned interior designer and creative director Kataryna Dmoch.  “Our primary goal is to offer the Russian customer exquisite and comfortable household goods which you can bring to your home immediately. Our plan is to offer the widest variety of premium furniture in Russia: with 300 exclusive pieces of Caracole brand furniture and more than 3,000 unique SKU’s of accessories, tableware, bed linen, carpets and lighting.”

Demographic data supports the decision to invest in Russia.  Russia has an $18T economy.  According to Sasha Trubetskoy, a geo-demographer, “the official city of Moscow now has 12.3 million people, but the metro area’s population is 17.3 million when you include the suburbs.  The city has steadily gained 1.5 million people every decade, and shows no signs of slowing down.”

When asked why Dmoch added a companion website, she rejoined, “Bricks and clicks are the wave of the future.  We can offer many more items than we have floorspace to show, and if it is on our website, it means it is in stock and available for immediate delivery.  Further, it allows us to serve a broader geography and build awareness until we have time to build stores in other Russian cities.”

She is also a prolific developer of new products and business concepts.  Her designs are licensed by the prestigious USA Vanguard Furniture brand.  Many of her creations feature a sense of movement and upscale finishes.  She also develops and sources products from around the world in the carpet, accessory, lighting and home goods categories.  Her retail introductions are often the first of their kind in new countries.

A true renaissance woman she has studied both design and business and holds an MBA and a MS of Information Technology from the prestigious Creighton University in the USA.  She began her career in finance and evolved into international branding and retailing.  But her most compelling education has evolved from endless market research in product and interior design, touring workshops and factories all over the world discovering uncommon materials and artisanal capabilities.  This unique combination of right and left brain thinking–analysis and creativity– have allowed her to create furnishings of distinction and unique retail venues.
