Furniture World News Desk on 9/28/2018

Theodore Alexander and Charles, 9th Earl Spencer recently announced that on October 12, 2018 from 4-5 p.m. they will unveil the newest masterpieces in the Althorp Living History furniture collection during High Point Furniture Market. Designed in partnership with Theodore Alexander, this collection encapsulates reproductions from the Althorp Estate, the Spencer family’s ancestral home of 19 generations of British nobility.

“The Althorp Living History Collection captures the extraordinary ancestry of 500 years of Spencer family tradition,” said Charles, 9th Earl Spencer. “Each piece brings to life generations of memories and embodies centuries of Britain’s most treasured craftsmanship.”

Hosted in Theodore Alexander showroom, the Althorp Living History Collection event will showcase a trove of furniture and upholstery inspired by five centuries of British heritage. Guests will receive the first glimpse of masterpieces such as the Peacock Cabinet, Medallion Sideboard and Green Park Sofa that mirror the estate’s original antiques. In a featured presentation, Lord Spencer will reveal the history behind the collection’s signature items and offer an exclusive photo opportunity with guests.

“The Althorp Living History Collection stands as cornerstone at Theodore Alexander,” said Neill Robinson, president, Theodore Alexander. “With the collection’s exquisite attention to detail and impeccable historical design, we’re able to invite clients to create their own legacy through these inspiring pieces.”

After the unveiling, Theodore Alexander will host a dinner and silent auction supporting Whole Child International with special guests, Whole Child Founder Countess Spencer and Lord Spencer. Lady Spencer founded Whole Child International in 2004 with the aim of giving every child the opportunity to be properly cared for and loved. Research has proven that in as little as two years, children receiving the benefits provided by Whole Child International have experienced significant health improvements, as well as overall improvement in cognitive, linguistic, motor and social-emotional development. The charity dinner celebrates the 14-year collaboration between Lord Spencer and Theodore Alexander, as well as the strength of relationships to influence positive change.

“There’s no better time than High Point Furniture Market and no better industry than ours to demonstrate what can be achieved when people come together for a common cause,” said Robinson. “We are dedicated to supporting the mission of Whole Child International and honoring the strides made by Lady Spencer.”

The furniture debut will be held from 4-5 p.m. in the Theodore Alexander showroom at 229 Russell Avenue in High Point. From 6-9 p.m., guests are also invited to attend the drop-in dinner benefitting Whole Child International with a $25 donation. Guests may RSVP for all events at theodorealexander.eventbrite.com. More about Althorp Living History Collection: For five centuries, Althorp - a sprawling English estate in bucolic Northamptonshire - has served as the primary residence of the Spencers, one of the most distinguished, aristocratic families in England with ties to Winston Spencer Churchill and the ancestors of George Washington.

It was this combination of rich legacy and the home’s warm, beautiful interiors that drew fine furniture maker Theodore Alexander to Althorp. The resulting collection of furniture and upholstery pieces in Althorp Living History draws inspiration from treasures gathered during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries by Althorp’s famous inhabitants.

More about Whole Child International: Millions of vulnerable children around the world do not receive adequate care and suffer from a lack of stable, supportive relationships. This is particularly true for children in developing countries growing up in orphanages, those from low-income families who spend the majority of their day in early childcare centers and those being bounced around foster care. While the global community tackles some of the underlying issues facing these children, their immediate developmental and emotional needs are not being met, resulting in stunted development, high levels of criminality and other adverse outcomes, reinforcing the cycle of poverty.

Whole Child International creates a nationwide program to establish high-quality care as a basic standard that is provided to all children, in any setting in which they receive that care.

We work within the local child welfare system to build capacity within local universities, local government and caregiving staff. Together with these existing stakeholders, we make the changes necessary to build stable, family like environments that enable proper child development — ensuring that all children can fulfill their promise as productive members of society.
