The Greater Metropolitan Home Furnishings Association (GMFA) announced that Pat Luthy of Suburban Furniture and Mattress been chosen as the recipient of the 2013 Howard Liveright Memorial Award.

Retailers, manufacturers, representatives and industry suppliers will gather for this annual event, a festive kick-off to the holiday season.

For over 25 years, Pat has been the "Mom" behind the family owned furniture store she runs with her husband Ken and son Kenny. She is the chief buyer and visual display manager for Suburban.

In the late 1980's, Pat and Ken purchased the Succasunna, NJ-based Suburban Furniture which had been around since the 1950's. "Suburban continues to operate like a good old fashioned, local family owned store,” observes Pat. “The community has given so much to our family, and we appreciate it.

"I am extremely honored and proud to receive this award," she continues. "There are so many good people in the furniture industry. I love what I do. And I love that I get to do it with my family. The furniture business is my life!"

“Pat truly deserves this honor,” says Rick Aaronson of Klaussner Furniture and, and longtime member of the GMFA board. “She has a passion for the furniture business, loves being at work and her hands on approach to the business is reflected not only in the merchandise she buys but also in the beautiful way she has it displayed. Pat understands that furniture is a fashion business and that is what guides Suburban Furniture.”

“This year,” notes Patrick Cory, Managing Partner of Cory First Home Delivery and President of the Greater Metropolitan Furnishings Association, “we will honor two individuals with major awards. Pat Luthy of Suburban Furniture with the Liveright Award, and Satya Tiwari of Surya with the Jerry Gans Memorial Award. These companies represent the best of what the furniture industry has to offer in terms of customer service and overall value. And, it’s always gratifying to honor individuals who have given so much back to our industry.”

“This important event presents an opportunity for retailers, reps, manufacturers and suppliers to network with industry friends while enjoying great food, an open bar, music and dancing. This year we’ve added additional menu choices and improved valet parking,” adds Alan Granetz, Executive Director of GMFA.”
