Furniture World News Desk on 11/21/2017

As part of its 75th anniversary, the Quebec Furniture Manufacturers’ Association (QFMA) recently honored a number of pioneers of the Quebec furniture industry. These people have at least 50 years’ experience in this industry, and some have achieved this accomplishment in the same company. The QFMA honoured these pioneers, during its annual convention, which was held at the Ritz-Carlton Montreal Hotel.

Six pioneers of the furniture industry were honored.

  • Mrs. Maria Romano, President of G Romano, is still active after 55 years
  • Mr. Nicola Amendola, President and founder of Italdivani, has been active since 1967
  • Mr. Jacques Canin founded Vic mobilier de magasins in 1955
  • Mr. Marcel Couillard has been a metal worker at Amisco since 1967
  • Mr. Guy Lacasse founded Groupe Lacasse, and is still an active partner after 61 years
  • Mr. Bruno Selmay, a Mobican partner still active after 54 years

"Nearly 95% of the Quebec furniture industry is made up of family businesses. Its leaders as well as its employees are passionate people who accomplish exceptional things... including having 50 years experience! We could not ignore such an important contribution to our industry. Real pioneers! " said Pierre Richard, President and CEO of the QFMA. "Today, these companies continue to fulfill their mission and are led by descendants of these pioneers, namely the second or third generation of entrepreneurs," he concludes.

The QFMA has also acknowledged the generous contribution of some of the former presidents of its board of directors. Full details on the furniture industry pioneers and past presidents can be found on the QFMA website.
