The Design Center at World Market Center, a new resource in Las Vegas for the home and design community, will launch First Fridays at WMC beginning October 7, 2005. World Market Center is proud to establish a monthly event that celebrates design in Las Vegas, and present its new 200,000 square-foot Design Center as a destination for members of the home furnishings industry. A not-to-be missed shopping day for local and out-of-market design professionals, First Fridays at WMC will feature educational opportunities, unique showroom specials, hospitality and other exclusive offerings for the trade. “Our Design Center is the first year-round resource of its kind for the local interior design community and we are pleased to offer a venue that provides education and sales events to the trade month after month,” said Dana Pretner, Director of Marketing & Public Relations for World Market Center. “The selection of Fridays also allows us to draw out-of-market designers who may want to ‘work and play’ in Las Vegas. Designers can come with colleagues or clients and combine an exciting day of design and shopping with a weekend of world class entertainment and dining that Las Vegas offers.” World Market Center has negotiated discounted room rates at TheHotel at Mandalay Bay for visiting designers. Furthermore, following the monthly Design Center events at World Market Center, which run all day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., guests can also enjoy the nearby downtown arts district which holds their own First Friday event. Local artists, professionals and Las Vegas residents gather downtown for a monthly celebration enjoying new art galleries and exhibits, restaurants, live music and eclectic street vendors. Shuttles run continuously in the area throughout the evening. “The city’s downtown community has been working actively to make Downtown Las Vegas a unique destination, and as part of this effort, the arts district puts on a wonderful event also on the first Friday of the month,” added Pretner. “Although World Market Center’s series is open to the trade only, we felt there was a good synergy between the two events which both celebrate creativity and innovation. In many ways, our event is a new extension of the ‘First Fridays’ brand for Downtown Las Vegas.” Launching the designer event series on Friday, October 7, World Market Center welcomes Margi Kyle, ASID, IDS, WCAA, NSA, known nationally as “The Designing Doctor”, who will provide a 90-minute seminar entitled “Today’s Presentations for Tomorrow’s Clients.” Attendees can receive CEU credits and gain an in-depth understanding of the 10 personality styles of people they may encounter in their interior design careers. Ms. Kyle will uncover the art of matching a presentation to the personality of a client and share insights as to why clients become difficult and what to do when they do. The presentation will also address such topics as the role of the Internet, company policies, preparing winning proposals and charging for time. Ms. Kyle began her career more than thirty years ago after graduating from The New York School of Interior Design and Sheridan College and is an active member of ASID and IDS. She has taught interior design courses, written many design columns for newspapers and magazines, and hosted and produced numerous television shows including her latest project called “Desperate Design.” Ms. Kyle has also served as manager of color and design for Para Paints and as a member of The Color Marketing Group. She currently travels throughout North America as an industry and keynote speaker for Hunter Douglas Window Fashions and her courses are all offered for CEU credits. In addition to being a Professional Member of the National Speakers Association, Ms. Kyle also owns a growing interior design business in North Carolina. Ms. Kyle’s presentation will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on October 7, 2005 with many of the showrooms serving lunch to attendees following the seminar. Space for the “Today’s Presentations for Tomorrow’s Clients” seminar is limited so please R.S.V.P. to events@lasvegasmarket.com by October 5, 2005 or call (702) 599-3073.
