Slumberland Furniture announced the planned opening of two retail locations in Wichita, Kansas. As of Saturday, January 29, 2005, both the east and west sides of the city will have a Slumberland Furniture store to "call their own." The west store will be located at 444 Emerson Street (phone 316-729-4343). Its sister in the east will be at 11777 East Kellogg Place in One Kellogg Place (phone 316-683-4343). Each store is 35,000 square feet, and the west location will also have an attached warehouse space. Approximately 80 local Wichita employees have or will be hired. Slumberland CEO Ken Larson says, "We're excited that our first stores in the state of Kansas will be in Wichita. It's a wonderful city and we're looking forward to becoming part of the community." All grand opening festivities will benefit Wichita Habitat for Humanity. A corporate donation will be made. In addition, the people of Wichita are invited to make a donation and to learn about volunteer opportunities and to support Habitat at both stores from January 29 through February 5, 2005. Habitat for Humanity volunteers will be accepting donations at both sites for the first eight business days. Customers who donate $10 or more to Habitat for Humanity will receive a Slumberland shopping card with values up to $100. (Specific rules and restrictions for use of the shopping cards and restrictions will be available on site.) On Grand Opening Day, Saturday, January 29, 2005, the stores will be open from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Regular business hours will be: 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. (Monday through Friday); 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (Saturday) and noon to 5 p.m. (Sunday). MORE: In 1967, the first Slumberland store opened in Minnesota. Unlike most furniture stores, it started as a mattress and La-Z-Boy specialty shop. Making people comfortable, with its products and prices, has been Slumberland's first priority, right from the beginning. Slumberland Furniture currently has 94 corporate and franchise stores in nine states. Slumberland is America's #1 seller of La-Z-Boy upholstery, as well as the Midwest's largest retailer of Natuzzi leather and both Sealy and Simmons mattresses. Slumberland Furniture believes giving back to the community is not only a good idea; but an essential part of business. Citizenship and stewardship are two of Slumberland's core values. That is why a portion of the money spent at Slumberland is returned to the community through charitable giving. As a family-owned business, Slumberland is proud to support activities and organizations that strengthen families and provide assistance to children and families in need. Wichita Habitat for Humanity Mission Statement: By the grace of God, Wichita Habitat For Humanity improves lives by building homes and facilitating successful home ownership with people in need of adequate housing. http://www.wichitahabitat.org/ .
