Badcock will launch a new 12,000sf prototype store on March 7th, 2000 marking the first major change in store and logo design in Badcock's 95-year history. Full implementation of the new store design is scheduled to be rolled-out within the next five years. Badcock selected GRID2 International, an internationally recognized retail design firm, to create the full concept work and designs in a bid to strengthen their foothold and image in the Southeastern market as well as to facilitate their future growth. " We are confident that this is the right time for us to step forward and demonstrate our role as a major player in the furniture industry" said Don Marks, President of Badcock. "We are very excited with the new image and store design and feel that it clearly represents our commitment for the new millennium to provide our customers with better service, convenience, selection, value and more!" GRID2 International created a design program, which appealed to Badcock's broad customer base. The new logo conveys a more contemporary look and communicates Badcock's intentions of providing more to their customers, in service, selection, and more of everything else they want in a home furniture store. The existing blue traditional logo will be replaced with a more approachable "Badcock Home Furniture & More" using a warm red and stylish gray lettering. "The new logo is distinctive and directly reflects Badcock's promise to providing more selections and ease of shopping," said Martin Roberts, President of GRID2 International.GRID2 continued the identity program inside the store using red T-walls with end caps displaying the Badcock logo. The store design concept caters to Badcock's existing consumer while also trying to appeal to a wider and younger spectrum of customers. The new furniture layout strengthens Badcock's presence as a hometown furniture store. Badcock Home Furnishing Centers were founded in 1904 by Henry S. Badcock, in Mulberry, Florida. Under the leadership of his son, Wogan, Sr. and grandson, Wogan Jr., the number of stores has increased dramatically. Additionally three big Distribution Centers serve over 340 locations in seven Southeastern states. Of these 340 stores, over 270 are privately owned. Badcock also intends to open 60 new stores in the next five years. GRID2 International has long been a leader in the furniture retail design industry. Using consumer focus groups and video research along with innovative store designs, GRID2 has provided some of the most customer friendly retail environments. They pioneered this design concept for the Barnes and Noble Superstores, which has since been implemented in over 500 locations. GRID2's retail programs have been implemented successfully both by established global firms repositioning themselves in a modern environment and by entrepreneurial companies claiming a unique identity in competitive markets. GRID2 International has been the recipient of numerous awards from organizations such as the Institute of Store Planners, Identity Magazine, Visual Merchandising and Store Design Magazine and many other professional organizations in recognition of its retail design services and is ranked as one of the top retail design firms in the United States.
