Stanley Furniture Company paid tribute to its prestigious designation as a member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s National Performance Track Program today, with a celebration including Martinsville Plant associates and VIP guests. “Achieving membership in the EPA National Performance Track status is an enviable accomplishment,” said Jeff Scheffer, Stanley president and chief executive officer. The program recognizes top environmental performers – those companies that consistently exceed environmental regulation requirements and lead their industries in reducing and preventing pollution. “It’s an environmental culture that involves every Stanley associate in the Martinsville plant and today we celebrate a tremendous team effort,” he said. “The festivities started with bright green T-shirts with specially designed artwork, a group photo, lunch and speakers from Richmond and Washington, D.C., to mark the achievement.” During the ceremony, Bob Sitler, Stanley senior vice president of operations, explained the award and process. Donald S. Welsh, Region III Administrator, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, presented a plaque to Charles Cooley, Stanley’s Martinsville Plant Manager and Terry Carter, Stanley’s Vice President of Production for Stanleytown/Martinsville. The Virginia Environmental Excellence Award was presented by Robert Burnley, director of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), and Richard Weeks, Deputy Director of the Virginia DEQ.
