Private Island Furniture announced that it will bring 300 new piece to its High Point showroom at Atrium on Main.

“People coming to our showroom expecting to find only bamboo and low prices this fall will be disappointed,” said president Gary Herwood, who owns and operates the company with his brother, Brian. “But anyone looking for stylized, detailed, upscale furniture in casual, tropical and sophisticated designs will find more than they expected. Well in advance of the market, buyers have been placing substantial orders after previewing 3-D images of the new Private Island offerings. Attracting all the attention are three new collections: Island Villa, Urbanity Art Deco and Revival Rattan.

“We’ve completely remerchandised our line, greatly enlarging and expanding the scope. Dealers who have seen, and ordered, these new pieces are telling us there’s nothing like them in the marketplace,” he continued. “I haven’t heard a negative remark, but I’ve heard our new collections called ‘truly inspired’ and other superlatives, so we have every reason to expect a fantastic reception.”

Formerly known as Bamboo Road, Private Island Furniture is an American-owned company with partner-managed offices in Texas and in Central Java. The company employs high-end construction techniques including dovetail and mortise-and-tenon joins. The rich, hand-rubbed finishes involve from six to 12 steps.

Earning a place in the increasingly desirable “eco-green” category, Private Island’s furniture is created from sustainable pole rattan, acacia and mindi wood, as well as sustainably harvested teak. All woven products are made of natural, sustainable palms and fibers including sea grass, rattan, rattan peel, water hyacinth and banana leaf. Only environmentally friendly low-solvent and water-based products are used in the finishes.

Of Private Island’s three collections being introduced at the fall market, Island Villa is the deepest, and the company already has orders for most of the 200 pieces available. Incorporating design elements ranging from British Empire to contemporary, the upper-medium-priced line is informal, yet not casual. Especially suited to vacation homes and resorts, the palette trends to the blues, greens, browns and tans indigenous to coastal or tropical regions.

Positioned in the lower end of the higher-price range, the new Urbanity Art Deco collection channels the elegance and romance of the Art Deco era, but refreshes it for today’s consumer. Defining the line are detailed case pieces, intricately patterned tables, comfortable seating groups, accent chairs and dining chairs.

The upper-medium-priced Revival Rattan collection updates classic vintage rattan styling in evolutionary stacked-pole designs based on mid-century masterpieces.

Commenting on the new collections, vice president and designer Brian Herwood said, “With Island Villa, we wanted to evoke a feeling that is tropical, but not touristy tropical, and we think the result is spot-on. With its extensive variety of base units multiplied by numerous options, this line can furnish several large villas, with no two bedrooms the same. In fact, we’re in the first phase of furnishing what will be an 80-unit condominium project in Anguilla, and we’re using Island Villa for all indoor areas – living, dining, bedroom – even vanities for the bath.

“Suited for a more sophisticated lifestyle, our elegant Urbanity Art Deco features urbane design, intricate detailing and custom hardware,” he continued. “And rattan aficionados will find

that pieces in our retro Revival Rattan line are even better than the vintage, refurbished originals that inspired them.”

In addition to the new collections, Private Island also has made additions to its Mod Combo line of upholstered seating and occasional tables, Décor line of handcrafted accessories, and Luxury Teak, a full outdoor program featuring two highly regarded original collections.

Private Island ships orders container-direct from Java, and will mix containers of various lines. Additional information about the company and its products is available at 866/717-0726 or privateislandfurniture.com. Email Gary Herwood at gary.herwood@privateislandfurniture.com.

Private Island’s permanent showroom is in Space 307 at Atrium on Main, which is located at 430 South Main St., in the heart of the High Point Market district. To contact the Atrium, call 336/882-5599 or email to info@atriumfurniture.com.
