The Malaysian International Furniture Fair 2010 (MIFF 2010) announced that it will take place from 2 – 6 March at three venues, the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) and the MATRADE Exhibition and Convention Centre (MECC).

To date, more than 500 exhibitors from Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, USA, UK, Taiwan, etc. will showcase their products at the fair; where an expected 20, 000 visitors will be gathering to witness the latest developments in the furniture industry, plus source for products that suit their needs.

In the recent years, MIFF has begun to move its focus towards a design orientated show, and it is no different in MIFF 2010. The exhibitors are moving ahead in the design frontier by showcasing fresh, innovative designs and by the usage of a variety of new materials. Show management says that one of the strong points of MIFF is in the office furniture category; where there is a significant growth in creating products that incorporate high-tech elements into their designs.

At MIFF 2010, visitors can expect to see more manufacturers who integrate technology into their designs to create products that offer maximum functionality to suit the fast-paced business world. Besides that, exhibitors also show increasing development in the materials used in furniture products. Many companies have shifted from using common materials like rubber wood to an assortment of materials like beech, oak and pine as well as palm oil fibre to make furniture. Moreover, there is an increase in eco-friendly materials like the recyclable wood-plastic components (WPC) made out of wood waste, rice husk, kenan fibre and sawdust; and the ecological water-based coating and finish which is of the same quality with solvent-based coatings. ‘Green’ is the keyword in today’s furniture production, and MIFF exhibitors are not left behind.

For the convenience of all participants, all three venues are segregated according to product category. PWTC will house office and home furniture and furniture fittings, while KLCC will accommodate the sofa and upholstery category.

While PWTC and KLCC will continue to provide for the export market; there will be a new segment called ID Trends in MECC, showcasing interior design concepts and home improvement products catered to domestic consumers.

Over the years, MIFF received feedback from the Malaysian public that they were unable to buy any furniture or furnishings products from MIFF. ID Trends will fill this gap by offering them an accessible platform where interior designers and contract manufacturers are located in one spot to offer consumers advice and answers to their lifestyle needs. It is open to the public during the entire duration of the fair, and on top of offering lifestyle solutions for homes and offices, there will be a group of interior designers at hand to offer advice to those who want to make improvement to their living and working spaces. ID Trends will run from 3 – 7 March at MECC, from 10.30am – 9-pm daily and admission is free.

MIFF 2010 and ID Trends are set to offer both exhibitors and visitors an opportunity to enlarge their networks and businesses in the global arena. To pre-register for a free admission pass to MIFF 2010, visit www.miff.com.my.
