Twenty one buyers from Art Van Furniture descended on the International Furniture Market at High Point last week to preview the 2010 lineup of home furnishings.  “We’ve been coming to Market for 50 years,” said Art Van Chairman and Founder Art Van Elslander, “and in spite of the economy, there is great enthusiasm and innovation throughout this event. Our people are finding great new products and exceptional values to bring home to our stores throughout Michigan.”

The Art Van team discovered several noteworthy trends.  “Gray is the new neutral,” reports Art Van Director of Visual Merchandising, Amelia Ellenstein. “Paired with deep jewel tones like amethyst, emerald, aqua and even shades of mustard, we’re seeing a rich new color pallet emerging in home fashion.”

“We’ve coined the phrase ‘Reclaim Your Style’ to reflect a philosophy of mixing eras to create a décor as unique as the individual.  There is only one rule in décor today:  don’t match when you can mix it up. ‘Matchy-matchy’ is dead,” said Ms. Ellenstein.

Examples of this include ornate chandeliers with sleek modern furniture, or mirrored old Hollywood era chests alongside more traditional wood furniture. White-washed and painted wood are also making a comeback.  “Today’s home should truly express the personality of its owner,” Ms. Ellenstein concluded.

Art Van Furniture was named 2009 Furniture Retailer of the Year, reflecting its continued strength and longevity in the industry.  The newest products from Market can be seen at the 31 Art Van Furniture stores immediately.  “With our 50 year long relationships and our buying power, we have the first pick of products and styles.  Many of the best manufacturers are exclusively available at Art Van stores,” stated Mr. Van Elslander.

About Art Van Furniture: Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Art Van Furniture is Michigan’s largest furniture retailer and America’s largest independent furniture retailer, operating 31 stores in 29 communities throughout Michigan, a full service e-commerce website plus a new freestanding bedding store in Canton, Michigan, Art Van Pure Sleep.
