Designer Barry Goralnick Adds Casegoods And Upholstery For Vanguard Furniture

Furniture World News Desk on 4/22/2017

At the April 2017 High Point Furniture Market, Barry Goralnick will expand his collection with many new pieces. Since his April 2016 debut with Vanguard, his designs have been featured in numerous publications and he has won several awards for innovation and design including the coveted “Best of Year” award from Interior Design magazine for the Norma Cocktail table featured in the image below.

Barry Goralnick is best known for his blending of time periods and ethic fusion of cultures, which are readily apparent in his new pieces. Goralnick shares, “Not only do I have a passion for traveling abroad, in a way, I time travel, too – I draw inspiration from every decade and destination I explore and bring them into my designs. My Millennial clients, especially, are more diverse than ever. And they’re traveling for work and pleasure at record rates. My new designs reflect the way they live and move through the world.”

Above are two of several new martini tables, which will debut this market. The Raj was born from a 1960’s lamp of Indian-inspired design, and features openwork brass and an artisanal glass top. You can see the influence of the minarets from the Taj Mahal with its squinch-arched onion domes.

The Giancarlo is sculptural in shape evoking the gilded spirit of the Eighties. The base is crafted with polished brass ribs. There are no sharp corners, which provides easy comfort and a sense of softness and femininity. The top is available in both artisanal glass and polished mirror. It is also available as a cocktail table and an occasional table.

The pentagonal "Cate" cocktail tables put the fun in functional (above). They can stand alone, be paired, or honeycombed to create a unique cocktail table. Available in three structural designs: open, closed with a door for hidden storage, and with shelves for display. Finish options include: any of Vanguard’s 70+ options, any paint color, or even gold or silver leaf. Tops are available in any artisanal glass or polished mirror.

The Marlene credenza and étagère are elegant in their refined simplicity, combining Asian and Western design elements. The base and the upper storage areas have a time-honored Chinese geometric motif. The open, square hardware adds balance and functionality. It earns its sobriquet from the German actress and singer Marlene Dietrich, who maintained popularity by continually reinventing herself, much the same as an iconic designer like Goralnick.

Vanguard Furniture’s President Andy Bray says, “Based on the success of Barry’s first collection for Vanguard, we are adding more of the hottest pieces – martini and accent tables – and introducing pieces that will complement them and bring them into other areas of the home. The new étagère is perfect for the latest proportions of American homes, and the credenza provides a visual anchor and storage for today’s larger TV screens.”

No single period predominates. There is a blending of beloved periods with a sensibility of now. While every SKU is unique, each possesses a common theme: they are one-of-a-kind statement pieces that lend themselves to an individual eclectic design expression. Goralnick explained his design philosophy: “No two people are alike, so no two rooms should be. Their home is an extension—and a unique expression—of their personal style. Today, the ultimate success is living with ease—and entertaining is part of that.”
