Heritage Home Group recently announced that they will be the inaugural community sponsor for The Salvation Army of High Point’s "Darrell & Stella Harris Champion of Hope" benefit dinner.

Heritage Home Group, headquartered in High Point, and the parent company for the iconic furniture brands Henredon, Maitland-Smith, La Barge, Hickory Chair, Pearson, Laneventure, Drexel-Heritage, Thomasville, Lane, and Broyhill, donated $10,000 to show their support and become the community underwriter for The Salvation Army of High Point’s inaugural "Darrell & Stella Harris Champion of Hope" benefit dinner.

The first Darrell and Stella Harris Champion of Hope Dinner and Celebration will be held May 16th at the High Point Country Club. A nationally known headline speaker, to be announced shortly, will give a keynote address and The Salvation Army will recognize volunteers and donors from the past year. The event will be open to the community as well as other corporate sponsors.

The prestigious Champion of Hope Award was named in memory of Furnitureland South founders Darrell & Stella Harris, in honor of the Harris’ long-standing support of The Salvation Army. Each year at the Darrell and Stella Harris Champion of Hope Dinner, a new company or individual who makes outstanding contributions to the High Point Salvation Army will be recognized.

Captain Bobby Jackson, commanding officer of The Salvation Army of High Point explains, "We are looking forward to this inaugural community event becoming one of our area's premier celebrations to honor the legacy of giving by Darrell & Stella Harris which is now continued by their two sons and owners of Furnitureland South, Jeff and Jason Harris. We are also excited to recognize this year's Champion of Hope Award recipient who has made a tremendous impact on our local community."

The recognition of the new Champion of Hope Award recipient will be a surprise announcement the evening of the event. FOX 8 WGHP was named 2016's very first recipient at the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary Red Kettle Luncheon. Remaining Champion of Hope Dinner details will be announced to the public within the next few weeks.
