Bassett Mirror Company recently announced that Jon Witteveen has joined the team as senior vice president-chief furniture merchant.

Witteveen replaces Keith Weisglass, vice president of furniture product development, who left to pursue other opportunities in the home furnishings industry. In his new position, Jon will report to Ron Cepulo, senior executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Bassett Mirror Company.

Witteveen joins Bassett Mirror Company from A.R.T Furniture, where he had worked since 2012 and most recently served as Vice President of merchandising and development. Prior to that, he served as director of product development for both Bassett Furniture and Magnussen Home. While at Magnussen Home, Jon, along with his family, spent nearly two years in Vietnam, supervising production operations. He has also worked with Samson International and Furnitureland South.

“We’re thrilled to have Jon on board with the rest of our talented team,” said Ron Cepulo. “He will bring a fresh, millennial perspective to our product development process. With his keen eye for creativity and color and his deep knowledge of materials and sourcing, he is a natural fit for our fashion-forward approach to furniture design and merchandising.”

Witteveen started his furniture career in 2000 after graduating from Catawba Valley Community College’s furniture design and product development program. After graduation, Witteveen spent his first four years working with Witteveen International, a furniture design firm owned by his father, Peter Witteveen, who had offices in the Philippines and High Point, N.C. Now retired, Peter Witteveen is a well-known furniture designer who developed domestic and offshore sourcing programs for a variety of leading furniture producers, including The Lane Co.

“I’ve been watching Jon’s role and contributions to the companies he has worked with steadily grow over the years,” said Cepulo, adding that his path would often cross with Jon Witteveen when the two were working and attending shows in Asia. “Jon is a bright, highly skilled individual with the rare ability to look at the latest trends in fashion and turn them into credible, salable products that are perfect for today’s lifestyles. We can’t wait to share his creative furniture designs with our customers.”
