Capel Rugs reports that it has published a new 36-page catalog called Braid Shop that celebrates the company’s rich 100-year heritage of quality braided rug making.

"Braids are our bread and butter, so we wanted to highlight our flagship product by showcasing our braided rugs in their very own catalog and shop," said Cameron Capel, vice president of national accounts.

The company, which is celebrating its centennial anniversary this year, produced its first braided rug in 1917, when founder A. Leon Capel converted his Plowline Company into making rugs. That year, after Henry Ford invented the tractor and made plowing by mules obsolete, Capel fashioned the raw materials used in his plowlines into braids and sewed them into colorful spirals to make reversible yarn braided rugs. As sales grew, Capel soon found out that nearly every family could use a good braided rug.

Now, 100 years later, braids remain a signature product category for Capel, representing the heart of the company’s mission: uniting quality materials with beautiful, handcrafted design. The company continues to do all its own dyeing, spinning, braiding and sewing in Troy, N.C., where it is headquartered, making braided rugs the cornerstone of a line that has now grown to include every conceivable construction and style.

"Practical, artisanal and affordable, Capel braids continue to be a favorite for countless families year after year,” said Capel. “Our durable designs are made with highly resilient yarns and proprietary threads to meet the rigorous demands of life. But they’re also full of fashion, with patterns and colors that are perfect for today’s more casual lifestyles."

To kick off its anniversary year, Capel Rugs is introducing New Homestead, an exclusive collection that pays homage to a signature braided design the company first created in 1917 and Yorktowne, an updated version of one of Capel’s best-selling braided rugs from the 1980s. Capel Rugs also created the Capel100.com microsite and 100 Years Video to highlight the company's legacy over the last 100 years.

In all, the new Capel catalog features more than 25 braided and woven collections. They range from early American and rustic designs such as Americana, American Legacy and Bear Creek to modern looks such as Bayview, a dual-textured eye-catcher, and Songbird, a contemporary design inspired by vintage tableware. Also featured in the catalog are Chenille Creations, Capel’s custom braid collection in ultra-soft cotton chenille, and Sea Glass, a collection of indoor-outdoor braids in synthetic fibers offering all-weather durability and performance.

Now being mailed to dealers nationwide, Capel’s new catalog will make its official debut during the January winter markets in Atlanta and Las Vegas. To request a print catalog, call 800-334-3711.

In addition to braids, Capel Rugs continues to import fashion-forward rug styles from all over the world including hand tufted, flat woven, hand knotted and machine woven rugs.
