The Piedmont Furniture Club held its 26th annual golf tournament on August 29, 2012 at the Colonial Country Club in Thomasville, NC. Proceeds from the tournament went to benefit Brenner Children’s Hospital – Cancer Research.

This year’s donation was made in honor of Christine O’Connor DesVergers, daughter of Madeline and Kevin O’Connor of Samson Marketing. The Piedmont Furniture Club honored Christine for her courage and motivation to others during her struggle with breast cancer. Many participants, as well as those who could not attend the tournament, made additional contributions to Brenner’s Cancer Research.

Dr. Sharon Castellino, MD, Associate Professor of Pediatrics Comprehensive Cancer Center Brain Tumor Center of Excellence and Nicole Witten, Development Events Coordinator for Brenner Children’s Hospital attended the tournament and expressed their gratitude for the donation to children’s cancer research. Kevin O’Connor was unable to attend, so his son Sean O’Connor presented Kevin’s speech. Christine’s husband, Matt DesVergers also participated in the tournament.

The tournament itself was a success with 26 teams and gracious sponsoring partners, the International Market Centers (IMC), Murrow’s Transfer, Zenith Global Logistics, Wahlquist Management, SDJ Trucking, as well as Samson Marketing, Legacy Classic Furniture, and Universal Furniture. “The support and contributions of our sponsors and participants at each year’s tournament help make it the success that it has come to be.” said Ray Haislip, Virginia/Carolinas HFRA President.
