Gardner-White Furniture, the 100-year-old, Michigan-based chain of furniture stores announced that it will open new locations inside two Detroit-area Best Buy stores, one of the world’s largest retailers of consumer electronics.
Steve Tracey, president of Gardner-White, describes the new retail concept and innovative shopping experience as “the ultimate in consumer convenience. Time is the most precious commodity to our customers and this is the answer to our time-starved society. These new concept stores will allow consumers to get the furniture and electronics they need, while saving both time and money.”
The new Gardner-White stores within a store will be located in the Best Buy stores at 2169 Telegraph Road, in Bloomfield Hills, and at 43525 West Oaks Drive, in Novi. Both stores are set to open their doors on September 21, and will host public grand opening parties on September 28, 29 & 30 to give away more than $25,000 in free prizes, plus a $10,000 Gardner-White shopping spree.
The opening of the two new locations will mark the first time ever that a major furniture retailer has built new stores within existing locations of a major consumer electronics retailer. Gardner-White’s footprint will be nearly 8,000 square-feet in the Bloomfield Hills store and 10,000 square-feet in the Novi-West Oaks location.
“This brand new retailing concept works because furniture and consumer electronics are two product categories that fit really well together,” said Steve Tracey, president of Gardner-White Furniture. “In fact, the first time we offered a free TV with the purchase of furniture, the customer demand was overwhelming.”
In partnership with Best Buy, Gardner-White was the first furniture retailer in Michigan to package furniture and brand-name (Samsung and Toshiba) televisions together. This retailing collaboration began in 2009 and today Gardner-White is one of Best Buy’s largest partners in the U.S.
Product offerings at the new Gardner-White Bloomfield Hills and Novi-West Oaks stores will include reclining furniture, leather furniture, entertainment centers and brand name mattresses, including Tempur-pedic, Icomfort, Beautyrest, Serta Perfect Sleeper and Restonic. “These special locations will have a mattress to satisfy every consumer and Gardner-White Mattress Experts will help customers select the bed that is right for them,” said Tracey. “Our selection of living room furniture includes many motion groups, perfect for family television watching, gaming and relaxing. Manufacturers include Lane, Klausssner, Natuzzi, Cheers and Ashley. The styles and values are sensational,” said Tracey.
The new locations will be staffed by Gardner-White product specialists and support crew to ensure that consumers who shop the store within a store will receive the great deals and the extra perks that they expect, including free next-day delivery and interest-free financing.
“These new stores are all about a more convenient, time-saving and complete home furnishings and electronics shopping experience,” said Tracey.
The public is invited to attend free, family-friendly grand opening celebrations at the Bloomfield Hills and Novi-West Oaks stores, September 28, 29 & 30. Party highlights include prize giveaways totaling more than $25,000, including a $10,000 Gardner-White shopping spree. Drawings for a variety of valuable prizes will be held every 30 minutes; prizes include 51” Samsung TVs, leather sectionals and reclining sofas, entertainment centers, brand name mattresses, Kindle Fires, 32” Toshiba TVs, Blu-ray DVD players and more. No purchase is necessary to enter any prize drawing. All winners must be present at the time of the drawing with the exception of the grand prize drawing for the $10,000 shopping spree. Gardner-White will also be giving away DVD copies of “The Avengers” with any purchase.
While the parties are free of charge, Gardner-White — one of metro-Detroit’s largest retailer of mattresses — is requesting donations of clean, new or gently used blankets to warm the heart of someone in need this winter. Additionally, Gardner-White will match the total number of blankets donated by guests. All blankets will be given to Volunteers of America for local distribution.
Hours of the grand opening parties at the new Gardner-White stores in Bloomfield Hills and Novi-West Oaks are Friday, Sept. 28 from 4 – 9 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 29 from 12 – 9 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 30 from 12 – 6 p.m. For more information, please visit Gardner-White’s Facebook page or website at www.gardner-white.com.
