Utah-based bedding accessories maker Malouf recently announced that CEO Sam Malouf has been awarded the Professional Achievement Award from the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University.

At an event on February 2, Douglas D. Anderson, dean of the Huntsman School of Business presented Sam with the award, commending him for his success and his work with the Malouf Foundation.

"One of the things we like especially and that drew our attention to Sam is that what he has done is more than starting a great business that meets a real need. He is using resources and the opportunities that they have to really make a difference in the world," said Anderson. "We are honored to recognize and honor Sam Malouf with the Professional Achievement Award for demonstrating ethical leadership and entrepreneurial spirit in his profession and in his service to the community."

The Professional Achievement Award is given to Utah State University alumni who display exceptional success and leadership in their respective fields. Prior recipients include Bradley K. Johnson, CFO of Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI); Rick Hornsby, group vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco; and Steve Milovich, senior vice president of human resources for Disney/ABC Television Group.

Sam Malouf earned bachelor's degrees in Accounting and Marketing and a Master of Accounting degree from Utah State University in Logan, Utah. It was during his time at Utah State that he and wife Kacie started Malouf, selling sheets from their two-bedroom apartment in 2003.

"Being here and gaining the exposure and perspective to great ideas and inspiration created the right environment so that we were ready to start the business when the right time came around," Sam Malouf said. "It brings back a lot of good memories to think about how Malouf got its start. It's an honor to receive the Professional Achievement Award."
