Naturepedic recently announced that on Monday, October 23, Naturepedic Founder and Technical Director Barry Cik was honored by the American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC), which has a membership representing more than 250,000 businesses nationwide. He received a Sustainable Policy Award -- or “SUSTY” -- which ASBC gives annually to recognize exemplary leadership in promoting policies that help build a more environmentally, socially and economically sustainable America.

Chagrin-Falls, OH-based Naturepedic manufactures certified organic mattresses and bedding products for the whole family. A leader in environmental stewardship, the company supports sustainable practices locally, in the U.S., and abroad. Naturepedic sources and manufactures its organic cotton, kapok, latex, and wool according to strict environmental and labor standards, and it is one of the few mattress companies in the U.S. to be certified to both the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and the Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS). “It is my great pleasure to give the 2017 SUSTY Policymaker award to Naturepedic Founder Barry Cik,” says Richard Eidlin, ASBC Vice President of Policy and Campaigns, who coordinates the awards. “Barry has devoted his career to creating organic consumer products free of toxic chemicals that can pollute our homes, a natural result of his lifelong interest in preserving the environment for future generations. A board-certified environmental engineer, Barry combines his passion for improving our quality of life with the technical knowledge to do so. He also is an advocate for legislative reform, and has testified in Washington, D.C. before a congressional subcommittee exploring chemical reform. Barry is a thought leader, who frequently speaks before scientific, consumer, political and business audiences on the benefits of sustainable product design.”

Other 2017 SUSTY recipients include U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), U.S. Senator Angus King (I-ME), U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings (D-MD), CEO and Founder of Business for a Fair Minimum Wage Holly Sklar, and President of the Niskanen Center Jerry Taylor.

ASBC presented Naturepedic with the 2017 award during SUSTYBIZ17, its annual business policy summit in Washington, D.C. Information about the summit may be found here: asbcouncil.org/events/sustybiz17.
