Home Comfort Furniture & Mattress Center Announces Store Closing

Home Comfort Furniture & Mattress Center, a retailer of furniture, bedding and home accents in the Triangle region of North Carolina, recently announced that it is closing due to the owner’s retirement. A going out of business sale at all four store locations commences Thur., Sep. 7.

Founded with just one store in 1985, Home Comfort Furniture grew into a leading destination for furniture shoppers throughout north-central and eastern North Carolina. The company was founded and owned by John Gunter, who is retiring.

Gunter is the son of the late Gene Gunter, president and CEO of Broyhill Furniture from 1981 to 1994, and a former retailer.

Gunter enlisted liquidation specialist Planned Furniture Promotions to manage the sale and transition. “PFP is proud to be working with John and his fine team,” said Tom Liddell, senior vice president, Planned Furniture Promotions. “John’s commitment to cutting edge marketing and customer service is unmatched, and it’s clear why he’s been so successful in the Raleigh market. We wish him the best as he transitions to the next phase of his career.”

“Over the years, Home Comfort Furniture & Mattress Center became one of our region’s top destinations for stylish, quality furnishings,” said John Gunter about the growth of his business, which celebrated 32 years of operation in 2017. “We focused on great values for name-brand furniture with quick delivery and a high level of service.”

Everything in the four stores will be sold before the closing. Home Comfort Furniture & Mattress features furniture and bedding products from well-known brands such as Ashley, Aspen, Benchcraft, Broyhill, Lane, Liberty, Magnussen, Sealy, Serta, Simmons, Spring Air and Vaughan-Bassett. A huge selection of product will be available during the sale event, including a variety of brands exclusive to Home Comfort, with discounts varying depending on the category.

Home Comfort Furniture & Mattress has three stores in Raleigh, located at 7016 Glenwood Ave., 5814 Glenwood Ave. and 5410 Capital Blvd. The company also has a fourth store located at 1315 Kildaire Farm Road in the nearby town of Cary.
