“Day To Dream” Provides 50 Local Cincinnati Children In Need with a Bed of Their Own

50 children from families in need received a bed from Morris Furniture Company at the inaugural “Day to Dream” hosted by the Cincinnati Reds at the P&G Cincinnati MLB Youth Academy in Roselawn on August 19, 2017.
St. Vincent de Paul - Cincinnati and Morris Furniture Company recently announced that they have partnered to provide 50 children in need with a bed of their own at the inaugural “Day to Dream” event at the P&G Cincinnati MLB Youth Academy in Roselawn. Every night across Cincinnati, many children sleep on the floor, on a sofa, or with other family members depriving them of the good night’s sleep needed to better live, laugh, hope and dream. “Day to Dream” helps solve this ongoing problem and raise awareness of the need for beds for children.
The event on August 19 provided each child with a complete twin sized bed set including a mattress, box spring, bed frame, sheet set, comforter, blanket, pillow, teddy bear, a Cincinnati Reds hat, and ball and bat. Families also received lunch courtesy of Chick-fil-A locations in Springdale, Colerain, and Kenwood. Families also learned about the opportunities to participate in free clinics offered by the Reds Community Fund for kids ages 5-18. Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley helped mark the occasion by issuing a proclamation declaring August 19th a “Day to Dream”.
“Our volunteers visit the homes of our neighbors in need and often find a pile of blankets on the floor where each night a child lays down to sleep,” said Mike Dunn, executive director of St. Vincent de Paul – Cincinnati. “The need for beds in our community is great and the generosity of the Morris Furniture Company will provide a good night’s sleep to many families.”
Throughout the year, a portion of all mattress purchases from Greater Cincinnati locations of The Better Sleep Shop inside Morris Home and Ashley HomeStore locations help St. Vincent de Paul provide beds to families across Cincinnati.
“Every child needs a bed and we are committed to bringing smiles to kids by giving those in need a bed of their own,” said Larry Klaben, President and CEO of Morris Furniture Company. “Since 2001, Morris Furniture Company has helped local organizations provide over 10,000 beds to families in need in Ohio and Northern Kentucky.”
Nearly 100 volunteers made the day possible including groups from WCPO - 9 On Your Side, Morris Furniture Company, and Sunrise Advertising. Volunteers helped assemble the beds and assisted families at Reds Youth Academy. City Dash and members of Crossroad Church’s “Mighty Men” group made home deliveries of each bed so every child could use their new bed that night.
