Sit ‘n Sleep Announces Release of Children’s Book With 100% of All Proceeds Going to Charity

Furniture World News Desk on 3/8/2016

Mattress retailer Sit ‘n Sleep announced today that it has launched the new children’s book, While Ana Sleeps, to teach the importance of sleep to young children. The book launch will be a celebratory community event that includes the CEOs of partner charities Jenesse Center and PADRES Contra El Cáncer (PADRES) and Larry Miller, CEO of Sit ‘n Sleep. 100% of all the proceeds from the book sales will go directly to these local charities. Jenesse Center is a Los Angeles-based domestic violence shelter, and PADRES Contra El Cáncer (PADRES), is a Southern California philanthropic organization committed to improving the quality of life for children and young adults with cancer and their families. In addition to receiving book proceeds, both charities will also be awarded with a combined $30,000 in funding from Sit ‘n Sleep.

“While Ana Sleeps is close to my heart as some of my most cherished memories are of the special time reading with my children while they were growing up,” said Larry Miller, CEO, Sit ‘n Sleep. “I hope that families are able to share the love of reading, learning, and healthy sleep habits while reading this book with their children.”

Sit ‘n Sleep is kicking off the book’s release with an exciting celebrity and family-filled launch event at its flagship store in Culver City on March 8 at 10:00. Attendees include executives from Jenesse Center, PADRES, and Sit ‘n Sleep, families supported by both charities, and celebrity sponsors.

Event Location: Culver City Sit ‘n Sleep: 3853 Overland Ave, Culver City, CA 90230
Event Date: Tuesday, March 8, 2016
Event Time: 10:00 a.m.

The additional funding provided to both charities will help Jenesse Center provide legal services to the victims of domestic violence who seek safety from the shelter. PADRES will use the extra funding for direct assistance, including transportation, food, and nutrition needs, to the families they support.

“We’re so thankful to Sit ‘n Sleep for including us as a partner in this effort and for donating both book proceeds and extra funding to PADRES Contra El Cáncer,” said Elvia Barboa, CEO of PADRES. “Our clients rely on the generosity of community donations, and we can’t wait to put the funds to good use to provide the critical assistance they need on their healing journey.”

While Ana Sleeps is written by Jennifer Mendelsohn, her work has appeared in the New York Times, People Magazine and USA Today, and illustrated by Dan Hamilton, a Los Angeles artist who has worked with Disney and Warner Brothers. The book tells the story of a young girl named Ana, who loves to go on adventures but hates going to sleep as she believes she’s missing out on fun adventures at night. She soon learns that getting a good night’s sleep is what allows her to have the strength and energy to be able to play and do all the activities she loves most.

“Sit ‘n Sleep is honored to be able to show our dedication and support to Jenesse Center and PADRES as part of our company’s ongoing philanthropic work,” continues Miller. “Both organizations provide incredible vital assistance for the local community and deliver much needed assistance to local families. We’re thrilled to be able to make this donation to help each charity further their life-changing work.”

A good night’s sleep is critical for all ages, but especially for children and their healthy development. Poor sleep has been linked to a variety of health problems, including behavioral issues, disrupted cognitive functioning, and can also lead to weight gain and high blood pressure. While Ana Sleeps will encourage children to get the healthy eight hours of sleep a night that they need.

“We are beyond grateful for Sit ‘n Sleep’s continued support of Jenesse Center and the families we serve,” says Karen Earl, CEO, Jenesse Center. “Not only has the company donated gorgeous, new beds to our housing facility, this generous funding will allow us to provide legal services to our families as they rebuild their lives. We hope that the community loves While Ana Sleeps as much as we do and can share the book as a special gift to their loved ones this holiday season knowing that it will positively impact so many local families.”

While Ana Sleeps can be purchased at all 33 Sit ‘n Sleep stores and online through Sit ‘n Sleep, Jenesse Center, and PADRES’ websites for $3.95: https://www.sitnsleep.com/while-ana-sleeps
