Jaipur Rugs, one of the fastest growing wholesalers in the home textiles and accent industry, reported that it has been nominated for the prestigious German Design Award, underscoring its standing among global brands in the home furnishings arena.

The award is the premium prize of the German Design Council, an internationally active institution committed to discovering, presenting and awarding unique design trends. Established in 2012, it is already one of the of the best-known design competitions in the world and is held in high regard in professional circles and beyond. Winners will be announced next month.

“We are thrilled and honored that the German Design Council shares our passion for design with meaning,” says Asha Chaudhary, chief executive officer, JaipurRugs. “This nomination is even more meaningful for us because of the unique award process, which places the highest demands on the evaluations of its prize winners in terms of proven design quality.”

Jaipur Rugs is a contender for the German Design Award in the Excellent Product Design category for the Anthar rug from its “Project Error” Collection. “Project Error is a collection close to our hearts,” Chaudhary relates, “because it embodies our brand mission to empower, connect and inspire through beautiful design.”

The Project Error Collection focuses on what Chaudhary refers to “as nature’s mistakes, the misprints and aberrations that would normally be tossed out.” Yet, in the eyes of Kavita (Kavi) Chaudhary, director of design and development at Jaipur, these blunders are works of art rather than gaffes, and the new patterns that result are forms of unintentional expression.

Indeed, Antharis a reproduction of a “faulty” carpet woven by three artisans using traditional methods who were out ofsync with one another. Rather than a precisely ordered pattern, it is an entirely new design born of error. “Not only is Anthar unique because it is a new form of design, but also because its specialness is due to the slight differences that occur during a creative process that requires 180 artisans to work by hand, from hand-carding the raw wool, to hand-weaving the rug,” Chaudhary sums.

The Project Error Collection will be unveiled at the Jaipur Rugs showroom (Showplace, Suite 3300) at the High Point Market next month.
