Living Spaces and Gallery Furniture Raise Over $1M for City of Hope

Furniture World News Desk on 6/26/2015

On Monday, June 8, furniture industry executives Grover Geiselman and Jim McIngvale received City of Hope’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the West Coast Golf and Tennis Tournament in Orange County, California. The sold-out golf tournament filled two courses at the beautiful Coto de Caza Golf Club and drew more than 600 attendees to the subsequent auction and dinner festivities.

“This year’s event was a wonderful testament of how industry leaders like Grover and Mack can make a profound impact on research that benefits cancer and diabetes patients worldwide,” said Rick Powell, co-chair of City of Hope’s golf committee.

Gieselman is owner and president of Living Spaces, and Jim McInvgale is owner and president of Gallery Furniture. Both are longtime supporters of City of Hope’s efforts to quickly turn breakthrough discoveries into new treatments for people with cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening illnesses.

“We are grateful to all of our industry partners who have made such generous contributions to honor Grover and Mack,” said Chuck Reilly, national chair of City of Hope’s home furnishings chapter. “We all share in the honorees’ dedication to City of Hope – an institution determined to transform the future of health.”

Proceeds from the event broke the million-dollar mark, and are expected to raise at least $2 million by year’s end, through Living Spaces’ matching-gift campaign, “Double Up for Hope.” All donations made in stores or via the company’s website, www.livingspaces.com/cityofhope, will be matched, up to $500,000, by Living Spaces.

"All of us here at Living Spaces are proud to partner with City of Hope in their fight against cancer and diabetes,” Geiselman said. “The inspirational stories from so many of City of Hope's patients and families have motivated our team to reach the goal of raising over $1 million in our ‘Double Up for Hope’ campaign. This campaign hits close to home since my dear friend and business partner recently suffered a serious stroke related to diabetes. We are thrilled to support the amazing research efforts at City of Hope and their relentless pursuit of cures for these awful diseases."
