Habitat NYC Opens New York City's First Ever ReStore

Furniture World News Desk on 5/16/2015

Habitat for Humanity New York City cut the ribbon on the first ever ReStore location in New York City on June 13. The Habitat NYC ReStoreis a 3,500 square foot retail space, an affordable home improvement center offering a variety of building materials including appliances, furniture, hardware and other discounted merchandise. Profits from the store directly support Habitat NYC in its mission to build affordable homes in New York City.

The ReStore is stocked with inventory donated by individuals, major retailers, designers and contractors so the product selection is updated every day! Shoppers looking for great deals will also be supporting a great cause. The ReStore, which is the first of its kind in New York City, is conveniently located at 62-01 Northern Blvd. in Woodside, Queens at the intersection of the BQE, exit 41.

"We are proud to bring ReStore to New York City thanks to our donors and volunteers. This retail store is an extension of Habitat for Humanity New York City and will provide our organization with invaluable support, helping us to continue serving the community," said Alex Havriliak, Acting CEO of Habitat for Humanity New York City.

The proceeds from Habitat NYC's ReStore will support home building and repair projects for low-income, hardworking families in all five boroughs. In addition to acting as a self-sustaining funding source for Habitat NYC, the ReStore is also good for the environment. Each year a ReStore can save up to 309 tons of waste from ending up in landfills. Customers will not only support families through shopping, they will also help keep New York City green.

"The ReStore is a great resource for New Yorkers who care about keeping New York City green. Building environmentally friendly homes is a priority for Habitat NYC and the ReStore helps provide a space where customers can help make an impact on the environment just by shopping," said Habitat NYC Board Chair Christine McGuiness.

The ReStore will be open every Wednesday thru Sunday from 9am – 5pm, with an extended closing at 7pm on Thursdays.

Furniture stores and manufacturers, homeowners, contractors and other businesses that donate items will receive a tax-deductible receipt. A list of acceptable items for donation is available at www.habitatnyc.org/restore.
