White goods manufacturing innovator HomTex Inc. recently announced a domestic facilities expansion, for increasing production capacity of its branded, patents-pending sheets, protective mattress pads and duvet covers by at least three-fold, according to president Jeremy Wootten.

With a $4 million investment in the retrofit and remediation of the former Nicolson File/Apex Tools manufacturing plant located on 29 acres in nearby Cullman, HomTex gains 300,000-square-feet of cut-and-sew production space in Alabama, adding to the existing 100,000-square-foot plant in Vinemont, where the company is headquartered, and slated for use as a distribution facility and showroom.

“We’ve identified growth opportunities for top-of-bed products from HomTex that deliver real solutions for end users, as well as incremental sales and margins for dealers,” said Wootten. “Increasing our U.S. based manufacturing capacity is a critical step in the areas of fulfillment and reducing delivery lead times.”

A start date for production in the new facility will be set later this year.

HomTex is a supplier to mass retailers and department stores as well as to specialty sleep retailers, home furnishings dealers and e-commerce sites. HomTex markets its quality top-of-bed products under the brand names Suprelle®, Dream Essence by FitRite®, Revive® and DreamFit®. Its trade showrooms are located in New York and Las Vegas.

The company additionally owns manufacturing facilities in North and South Carolina, which are dedicated to pillow filling and terry weaving, respectively. HomTex utilizes a hybrid supply chain, including offshore production, for high volume goods.

HomTex ceo and founder Jerry Wootten started the company in the ‘90s on a quest to solve the problem of ill-fitting sheets for an evolving mattress category. His focus on innovation grew to include technical solutions for common sleep issues related to temperature control, moisture wicking and sleeping position, among others. His strategy includes aligning with fiber, yarn and components suppliers to invent production techniques and to create new designs. Under his direction, HomTex, Inc. has grown to become a formidable competitor in the white goods space, with 15 patents pending.
