Crystorama Lighting Adds Personality to 2015 Designer Showhouse in High Point

Two stylish Crystorama lighting fixtures will be among the featured products in a master bedroom being created by designer, author and makeover TV personality Libby Langdon for the 2015 Designer Showhouse underway in High Point, N.C.

This year's Showhouse - a circa-1912 Tudor Revival home once owned by prominent High Point businessman Randall B. Terry - will feature a mix of leading local and national designers. Exploring the theme of "From High Point to the World," the designers will draw inspiration from the history of the Terry property and the furniture-rich legacy of High Point to create a modern, livable space in the historic home.

For the bedroom, Langdon will mix lots of luxurious fabric, stone and mixed metal materials. Her goal, she said, is to create "an intimate, inviting space with masculine, rich elements" that would be just as enticing and comfortable for the woman of the home.

"It's a 'his and hers' room filled with texture, reflective light and a modern, elegant twist. I hope people walk into the space and come away with the thought that a master bedroom can be gorgeous and peaceful even when there are bold interior design choices. This bedroom is a great example of how you can creatively use every inch of your room and design a totally stylish and complete retreat!"

The room features a variety of cozy upholstery and other furnishings from Langdon's licensing partner Braxton Culler, as well as two signature lighting fixtures from Crystorama, also a partner. The first fixture is Jennings, a polished nickel pendant in a striking graphic pattern with a white linen shade. The second fixture is Sylvan, a small-scaled chandelier that combines an angular outer frame with sloping, polished nickel arms capped by white linen shades.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be featuring my lighting collection for Crystorama in the space," said Langdon, known for her "easy, elegant, everyday" design approach. "There's going to be a real 'rockstar' design moment in the room and my Sylvan chandelier is going to be right in the middle of it. It's going to be unexpected and I can't wait for people to see it!"

In working with interior design clients, Langdon finds husbands and wives usually like to make a decisions about lighting fixtures as a team since these pieces are more permanent than table lamps or other small pieces. As a result, she said, "I try to incorporate a masculine element as well as a feminine element so that the final design works for both him and her."

Langdon added that she likes mixing and showcasing her various lighting collections together in the same room. "I think it's important to stay away from things in sets and items that are so "matchy-matchy." Combining fixtures of varying styles adds depth and dimension to the overall design, she said.

The master bedroom in the Terry House is a very large space with high ceilings, beautiful trim detail and several windows that let in plenty of sunlight, according to Langdon. "Some of the challenges for this room are how make such a large bedroom feel intimate and cozy - and what's the best way to lay out the furniture to make sure I'm really utilizing all the square footage and not letting areas go unused!"

Another dilemma with the master bedroom is that there are either windows or closet doors on all the walls in the room which makes it tricky to position the bed. "I've got some super design solutions I'm incorporating into this room," said Langdon, "and I think when people walk through the space they will get some great ideas they can use in their own homes!"

Set to open with a gala preview party from 6 to 11 p.m. on April 17 - the eve of the semi-annual High Point Market - the High Point Showhouse is a collaborative effort by the Junior League of High Point, Traditional Home Magazine and the R.B. Terry Foundation. Tickets for the grand-opening party, which will be attended by the designers, are $100.

The house also will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily on April 18 to 26 and May 1 to 3, and for extended hours until 9 p.m. on April 18 to 20. Tickets for viewing the house are available for $25. Proceeds benefit the Junior League of High Point.
