Tropitone Furniture Co., a leading manufacturer of fine casual furniture, announced the launch of its Transitions Collection expected to appeal to both the residential and hospitality markets with its sleek modern silhouette accented with a scroll-like spiral, inspired by classical Greek architecture. According to Peter Homestead, vice-president of design at Tropitone, the Transitions Collection works equally well whether in a traditional-style Mediterranean backyard or the contemporary surroundings of a world-class vacation resort. In addition to a low and high back dining chair and a rocking lounge chair, the Transitions Collection includes a double glider, recliner with ottoman, barstool, chaise lounge, and swivel rocker with either a low or high back. “This collection is truly a transition – a move from a highly detailed and ornate style toward a simple elegance,” Homestead said. “The frame is smooth and graceful with curved, elliptical edges that flow together in an easy and refined style. Overall, it has a subtle yet powerful visual appeal that can be successfully paired with the dramatic and elegant tables in Tropitone’s Stoneworks Collection -- such as the Mosaic and Tiled Stone Tabletops. Homestead said that both the Transitions seating and Stoneworks Tabletops offer versatility as well as easy maintenance. “The dining chairs in the Transitions have a ‘sled base’ with a runner on the ground which gives the chairs stability whether on a smooth patio surface or on uneven surfaces, such as sand or grass. This sled base also makes the chairs easier to move than a four-legged chair,” he said. “And the Mosaic and Tiled Stone Tabletops offer both drama and durability, which have contributed to their broad-based popularity. While they create the appearance of hand-crafted ceramic tiles, they are constructed of high-density urethane, so they don’t require the same high maintenance that ceramic tiles need. A new Stoneworks Tabletop, Java, which resembles woven wicker, but also is constructed of high-density urethane, will be introduced shortly and will work well with the Transitions Collection, too.” John Caldwell, who designed Transitions, said that the need for comfort in casual outdoor seating was key to many of the underlying design elements of the collection. “Today’s outdoor room offers the same charm and comfort found inside the home making it a warm and inviting place to relax and socialize. For these reasons, people often linger longer around the table when dining outside, so casual furniture needs be easy to sit in for extended periods of time. With Transitions, we accomplished this by creating a slightly deeper slant in the seat of the chair. This makes it possible to slip back into the chair in a more relaxed sitting position. “Transitions’ rocking lounge chair, which is slightly lower than the other chairs in the collection, is ideal for gathering in small, intimate chat groups around a lower center cocktail table or a fire pit. Sitting in such a lounge chair in a gracious outdoor room setting is as comfortable as being in your family room by the fireplace,” Caldwell said. Founded in 1954, Tropitone is based in Irvine, California, and is recognized throughout the casual furniture marketplace for its design leadership as well as its commitment to service and value. The company sells its products to retailers, designers and the hospitality trade under the Tropitone and Basta Sole trademarks.
