Sears Canada Inc., introduced Mini Mod, Rowe Furniture’s collection of smaller-scaled sofas, sectionals and chairs, to its family of national brands. The debut of the Rowe’s Mini Mod furniture collection meets the needs of people living in small spaces. “At Sears we believe in stylish alternatives for people who choose to live in smaller spaces,” said Sarah Chystman, Trend Manager, Home and Hardlines, Sears Canada Inc. “The Mini Mod collection epitomizes urban dwellers’ needs. They’ve made it much easier to furnish a small condo with a sofa that fits.” The Mini Mod collection offers sofas, sectionals, chairs and ottomans each with a selection of fabrics that enable consumers to customize their favorite piece in the fabric of their choice. Rowe Furniture continues to manufacture in the U.S. and is able to deliver custom upholstered furniture to Sears within three to four weeks. The inspiration for smaller-scaled upholstered furniture originates from the fact that a significant number of people are living in smaller condos, apartments or homes. Whether its empty-nesters, first-time homeowners or students in college dorms, they often have to contend with smaller rooms, fourth floor walk-ups, irregularly shaped walls, or moving a lot. The average, approximate size for a full-size sofa is 206cm to 244cm in length, with accentuated rolled arms and high backs. The seat depth is usually between 97cm and 117cm or even more for sectionals. These sofas dominate a room and if you have a big space to fill then this is the sofa you need. But, if you have a smaller space you might choose a loveseat. On average, loveseats are between 147cm to 175cm in length. One person is comfortable. Two people are cozy. The Mini Mod Collection introduces a new option - sofas that are scaled between 180cm and 203cm in length with narrow arms or often armless. Sit two people comfortably; decorate your room without miss-matching the proportion of accent furniture like end tables, lamps, ottomans; and rest assured that you’ll be able to move it easily. The fabric applications are also scaled accordingly, so those 1960’s inspired bold stripes, bright colors and geometrics will make a subtle statement. These sofas are mini, they’re modern and they’re mod. Rowe first ventured into the arena of smaller-scaled sofas in October 2003 when they introduced the Capri Mini Sofa at the International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, North Caroline. The Capri measures 196cm in length and was positioned to retailers as an alternative to the full-sized sofa. Retailers in urban areas quickly recognized the potential. The response from consumers in the U.S. encouraged Rowe to introduce a broader collection in April 2004 and to expand on the success in October 2004. The Capri Mini Sofa is currently in the top ten of Rowe’s best sellers. The Mini Mod collection will be available in all Sears Home Stores nationwide this August.
