Dubbed as the Norman Rockwell of the 90s by People magazine, Mary Engelbreit will be featured at IFDA's Fall Design Seminar. Engelbreit's unmistakable American style combines wit and nostalgia with characters, sayings and scenes often springing directly from her observations and memories. A New York City art director advised her in 1977 to try greeting cards, and her open-mindedness lead to success. By 1986, retail sales of Mary's card designs had topped a million dollars a year. Followed by Calendars, T-shirts and mugs, to home accents and now home furnishings - more than 500 products in all have been created by Engelbreit. Her collections include lamps, area rugs, framed art, woven tapestries and accessories, ceramics and accent pieces. Her symposium "At Home With Mary Engelbreit" will introduce personally her philosophy for creating designs and products that have transcended the gift industry into home decor. Discussion will also include licensing, her magazine and the inspiration behind her designs. Scheduled for Friday, October 17, 1997, Noon, IHFC Green Wing, 1 1th Floor, International Ballroom B. The event is sponsored by IHFC and the International Furnishings and Design Association Educational Foundation. Tickets are $15 (includes lunch) and advance reservations are required.
