24th Annual Trillium Awards Ceremony Honors The Most Marketable Products In The Canadian Residential Furniture Industry

Nearly 400 Furniture Industry Representatives, Furniture Retailers and their Guests gathered at the Verdi Hospitality Centre here on Friday evening, January 9, 1998 for a gala banquet and presentation of the Annual Trillium Awards for Canadian Residential Furniture. The Trillium Awards, recognizing true value and marketability to the consumer of Residential Furniture, were hosted by 108 year old Ontario Furniture Manufacturers' Association (OFMA) and presided over by 76th OFMA President, Gerry I. Cockerill Jr., also CEO of Leda Furniture of Toronto. A prominent furniture retailer and former Trillium Jury member, Tim Kingsmill of Kingsmill's in London, was the Guest Host and Master of Ceremonies of the gala. Mr. Kingsmill was also key-note speaker and presented the "Grand Trillium" Award at the end of the event (see separate release). 54 Trillium Category Awards and 26 Trillium Merit Awards were presented to furniture manufacturers Peter Feindel, Taurus Craco, Mississauga; David Hunt, The Bay, Toronto; Ray Lenauskas, Exclusive Fabrics, Toronto; Bud Martin, Steinman Transportation, Toronto; Orville Mead, Durham Furniture, Durham; Wayne Wickstrom, Leggett & Platt, Carthage, MO. Gerry Cockerill presented the Trillium Summit Award for Canadian Design to Frank Perri, Concordian Chesterfield of Concord, ON. He also presented the Trillium Summit Award for Canadian Content to Orville Mead of Durham Furniture, Durham, ON. Trillium-Winners are selected by a 10 member Jury of Retailers using a selection criteria based on styling, dollar value and marketability. Since its inception the Trillium Award has been recognized as a "Symbol of Excellence". Trillium is a marketing award which recognizes achievement in the marketing, production and quality but represents Overall Dollar Value To The Consumer of residential furniture manufactured in Canada.
