The American Furniture Manufacturers Association has completed details for the collection of furniture products to be used in its Hurricane Floyd relief effort. "We have been most pleased by the response of our members to the call to be of assistance to their fellow citizens," said Fred Preddy, President of Hammary Furniture and President of AFMA. "Those additional facts will help facilitate decision-making by the industry," he continued. The state of North Carolina has designated the North Carolina Emergency Management Logistics Hub at 9701 Capital Boulevard, Wake Forest, North Carolina as the repository of products collected. This facility is fenced, padlocked and protected by National Guardsmen during hours of operation and is open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Full details concerning delivery to the Hub are available from the AFMA office in High Point at 336/884-5000. Please speak with Brent Burton, AFMA Director of Transportation and Logistics. In an effort to broaden the collection activity to retailers who wish to participate, Atlas Van Lines has agreed to serve as the consolidator of shipments in major metropolitan areas for return to the North Carolina distribution center. Members of AFMA's Suppliers Division who are specialized furniture carriers and the North Carolina Trucking Association have agreed to make their equipment available for delivery to the Emergency Center should it be desirable. "As there, is considerable work to be done before residences will be ready for furniture," said Preddy, "we encourage all members of the industry to begin shipping product on November 1. This will assure that the survival needs of the residents have been met prior to entering the distribution system with furniture products." Full details of the Hurricane Floyd relief effort can be obtained from AFMA by calling 336/884-5000 or writing P. 0. Box HP 7, High Point, NC 27261. Fax requests to 336/884-5303.
