At the recent joint Greater New York Home Furnishings Association, Metropolitan Furnishings Association Outing, James Druckman, was given the coveted Meadoff Memorial Award for Sportsmanship. Mr. Druckman's father, David, who recently passed away, received the award in 1990. This coveted award, instituted by the late Hal Meadoff in honor of his father A.S. Meadoff, The Memorial Award is being perpetuated by Hal's children. Sportsmanship does not signify skill or performance... rather it has to do with life-style behavior, fair play, and fair-mindedness. Inter-personal relationships in the industry, social consciousness and support of humane and philanthropic causes. These were the characteristics that Sam, the father had, which made him so revered by his peers... and Hal wanted this memory perpetuated. The person who is chosen to receive this Award possesses and exemplifies these characteristics. The very first Award was selected by a group of leaders in the industry, and thereafter, year by year the former recipients meet for lunch to review and choose the individual they believe fits this picture... a person they will be pleased to welcome into their midst. The Meadoff Memorial Award for Sportsmanship is one of the most coveted Awards in the Greater New York area, since it is the "person" not merely a position or title being recognized. Druckman has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of the New York Design Center since 1995. As head of the NYDC, one of the leading furnishings showroom buildings in the country, his responsibilities include strategic marketing, tenant relations , management and financial concerns. He is President and Chief Financial Officer of Century Case Goods Co., Inc. a real estate and furniture distribution company at the low to mid price level. He is also the principal of Profiles, a custom and imported designer furniture showroom located at the New York Design Center. After earning an undergraduate degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a law degree from Columbia University School of Law, Druckman practiced real estate and taxation law, but was then drawn into the home and contract furnishings industries.
