The entire exterior and interior of the old Ames department store located in Monroeville Plaza on Business Rt. 22 near the Pittsburgh Area municipality of Monroeville is undergoing a $1.5 million remodel by Roomful Express Furniture. The 80,000 sq. ft. of floor space will make it the largest Roomful Express location in the 12-store chain that serves the Pittsburgh, Wheeling, W.Va. and Johnstown, Pa. markets. The new store will replace the existing Roomful Express along Business Rt. 22 in Monroeville, according to Jack McGowan, Roomful Express CEO. "We're doubling the size of the existing Monroeville location. The design and floor plan are consistent with the prototype established at The Pointe, although this will be a one-story version," said McGowan. A 60,000 sq. ft., two-level Roomful Express Furniture store built in The Pointe at North Fayette opened last March. As with that store, Pittsburgh architect Ralph Marovich, and retail space designer Connie Post, havecombined their talents in creating the exterior and interior design elements of the new Monroeville site. The builder on the project is Pittsburgh-based Barbur Company. "The new location is necessary to accommodate our expanded product selection that will better serve our customers in the Monroeville area," McGowan explained. "What's more, Monroeville Plaza is more conveniently situated on Business Rt. 22 to allow for easier access in both directions. It's also an established furniture shopping corridor with five other furniture retailers in close proximity." At least 8-10 new jobs will be created at the new store in addition to the 20 employees who will be transferred from the current Monroeville location. Roomful Express Furniture () is a family owned company founded in Pittsburgh in 1958. The Company currently employs 355 and operates 12 locations in the Pittsburgh, Johnstown. Pa. And Wheeling, W.Va. market areas. Projected sales for 2003 are estimated to be $61 million.
