The Philippine International Furniture Show lets the whole world in on Asia’s best kept secret: the fine furniture and furnishings produced by Filipinos. While the whole world only begins to appreciate globalism and cross-cultural lifestyle borne by the death of borders and the birth of the Internet, our industry represents a country that has been cross-cultural all this time. For what nation can claim having its Malay heritage enriched by half a millennium of European colonization and half a century of American rule, melding well with migrants and wanders from China, India, Britain and Japan? We are today positioned to soar with wings like eagles. This is the message that PIFS hopes to tell the world. The wise participants know that a trade show is probably the richest source of product ideas, information on trends, of real customer feedback on prices, designs or, equally as important, buying policies. Now on its sixth year, the PIFS continues to draw an impressive number of buyers and visitors as it showcases the unique craftsmanship and the unequalled creativity of Filipinos. Filipino artisans have continuously created new product lines based on innovative design, integrating such indigenous materials as sea grass, rattan, wicker, bamboo, wood and wrought iron to suit global tastes and trends, satisfy the Buyer with a blend of mixed media, design trend that Filipinos are noted for. PIFS also showcases Filipino culture and hospitality through the different organized activities honouring both visitors and participants. The Buyers’ and Exhibitors’ Night held on the second day of the Fair is one example. At the Awards Night, the creators of the Furniture are admired and honored with the Likhang Pilipino Awards. The staging of a different, much better PIFS every year underscores the openness to new ideas and innovation in response to the challenge of healthy competition and dynamism. PIFS 2002 target to hit US$45 Million in total sales and 2,500 numbers of visitors. PIFS 2002 will be held on February 28-March 3, 2002 at the World Trade Center, MANILA. Sponsored by: A.T. Intergrouppe, Inc., Formaply, Northwest hardwoods Becker Acroma, Bluprint, My Home, Hyatt Regency Manila, and Cebu Pacific. Supported by: Philippine Exporters Confederation Inc.
